Journalist Arshad Sharif’s death: Kenyan police investigation continues, ‘Pakistan in touch with Kenyan government’
Kenyan police say they are investigating the death of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif in the capital, Nairobi. While Federal Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb says that the identification of the deceased has been completed and the legal process has been started for his transfer to Pakistan.
According to the BBC’s Beverley Ochieng in Nairobi, Kenya police are investigating the death of Arshad Sharif in Kajiado County, next to Nairobi.
Kenyan police spokesman Bruno Schioso told the BBC that they are investigating the circumstances behind Arshad Sharif’s death, but no formal statement has yet been issued by the Kenyan police.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said in a statement that “(we) are in touch with the Kenyan government to find out the facts related to this incident.” The Pakistani Embassy in Nairobi is fully supporting Arshad Sharif in the matter.
Arshad Sharif’s wife Jawaria Siddique told the Kenyan police that Arshad was shot dead, but local media in Pakistan initially claimed that he had died as a result of an accident.
