You’re not going to watch this video after today, especially since it wouldn’t be my responsibility to tell you whether it’s good or not. There are two things you could do: either you could walk out in the middle or stay in the theater until the end. The film Is made by my brother, and I made a mistake just two days ago by rewatching Akshay Kumar’s “Bhool Bhulaiyaa.” But don’t worry about that because even if you don’t watch that, this kar tik Aryan movie won’t impress you in any department.
Okay, let’s go systematically. First, the story takes place entirely in West Bengal, which means you’ll see a lot of Bengali accents that feel cheap, similar to how Punjabis may behave in films. First, we meet Rooh Baba, played by Kartik Aryan, who claims he can communicate with ghosts and can feel their presence, tricking people into giving him money. One day, he meets Tripti Dimri, who offers him a crore rupees and asks him to help with a very old mansion where a ghost named Manjulika resides, making it uninhabitable. Together, they plan to get rid of the ghost and sell the mansion for profit.
At this point, I felt bad that I was giving away too many spoilers, because the plot is as shallow as I described it, and literally, there’s nothing further to engage the audience. After this setup, once they reach the mansion, you can skip ahead to the climax of the movie where things actually begin – but the story does not evolve at all in between. The entire time, they try to make you laugh, and I want to emphasize the word “attempt” here because it fails. Comedy is highly subjective, and since I went for an afternoon show, there were at least 20 people in the theater, laughing at jokes that I found inadequate.
I’m scratching my head wondering why there wasn’t anything humorous in the movie. To illustrate the type of comedy they attempted, they brought together three characters: Sanjay Mishra, Rajpal Yadav, and Ashwini Kalsekar, who tried to create situational comedy. For instance, Rajpal Yadav’s character makes a joke about arriving in a Rolls Royce, followed by showing a picture of a bullock cart labeled ‘Rolls Roy-Hans’. It was hardly funny – this idea that had some promise in the trailer materialized as a disappointing execution in the film, with the humor completely missing its mark.
As for Kartik Aryan’s performance, it’s just okay, as expected. Tripti Dimri returns as Manjulika, and her presence added a bit of seriousness to the film, just enough to keep me awake, but still, it was minimal. The atmosphere around the sequel to “Bhul Bhulaiyaa” wasn’t particularly high, but this time they repeated mistakes from the second part.
The riotous sequence saw very minimal engagement from my end, as Rajpal Yadav’s one scene referencing last year’s biggest film stood out. Madhuri Dixit and Vidya Balan’s roles added some weight, making me feel aware to the point where I stayed awake, even drifting sometimes. The twist towards the end of the movie was unexpected, which should normally be a positive review point considering it’s a mystery film. However, it undermines the entire experience, given that for an hour and a half preceding it, there was no substance.
You think about how the premise involves a haunted mansion filled with a fearsome ghost, yet for an hour and a half, there’s nothing but comedic distractions. They jump to the ghost segments sporadically, and she isn’t impactful, lacking any real fright. For most of the movie, I felt like they merely relied on loud noises to scare the audience. In recent horror films, it’s similar to the approach of making the setting feel eerie; here, it felt lifeless.
My final verdict: I didn’t like the movie. Compared to the second part, which had some heart in the end, that element is missing here. I wouldn’t go to see it again, even if someone paid for my ticket and snacks. But recommending it depends on your preferences – if you enjoy minimal comedy or shocking sounds, you might find some value in it. I don’t know, because I saw some people in my theater laughing. Perhaps, you could enjoy it too, but I didn’t.
